My Time With Ellery Queen
Double Trouble with a Double Biography
Ellery Queen has always been one of my favorite mystery authors. From as far back as my teens, I can remember reading his Country-Object Mystery books at school, where the scandalous covers raised eyebrows. I can also remember the adventures of Champ, so much so that my own first dog was a Scottish Terrier named Ellery.
I made a good start on the book, and was enjoying myself. Two friends were helping me on the book, and we had long talks that really drove the narrative on the key points in lives of both men.
Then both men passed away, somewhat suddenly. I was taken aback, and I took some time off from writing it. While I was recouping, I was asked to lead Crippen & Landru Publishers. I took that job on happily, but it took a great deal of time to produce quality books by some of my favorite authors.
But in 2020 in the midst of the pandemic, I turned 60, the age I could retire from teaching. So I did. That time has given me a renewed energy in writing this book, and I have started giving chapters of the biography to friends who share my enthusiasm for this writer. I hope to finish the book in the not-too-distant future, and share it with the rest of the world.
